Waiting a season for deck

We are building an inground vinyl pool this August. The pool guy told us it was a good idea to wait until next spring to build the pool surround as this will give the pool time to settle. Thoughts?

If the builder did a really good job on the pool, you shouldn't have to wait at all. Sounds to me like he is doubting his own work. All pool builders build the pool deck immediately after they pour the gunite for in-ground pools! Though a vinyl lined pool doesn't have gunite that reaches all the way up the walls of the pool like a hard-shelled pool, it is on the bottom, so the pool should not be "sinking" as this would be really bad on the pipe work!

Also, prices go up with demand for anything construction related (decks) in the spring, so I would definitely get it all done before then if you can!

I would just like to add:
Sounds like the guy has other work commitments. If you are happy
with this arrangment i would find out the exact cost of the deck
within his quote and tell him you will withhold this payment until
the deck has been completed to your satisfaction.
