SWGs excel at maintaining a level of chlorine, once the level has been established by alternate means.

They generally will not produce enough chlorine to kill off an algae outbreak - which you might have. Also the Pentair documents will tell you that you should have CYA around 70 IIRC. Without the right level of CYA it may not be able to produce enough to defeat the effects of sun, bathers, etc.

Also there seems to be some issue with the numbers you posted. I have a hard time believing you have a TDS number of zero. How are you getting your numbers.

And finally, are all the lights on the IC-20 green once it's done with its internal check on start up?

All lights are on tds was tested by a pool company not myself i had high levels of tds about three weeks
ago and drainded pool down. The owners manual does say keep at about 70 but the pool company
who sells the same ic20 i have says i should be getting chlorine at my current reading. So should i
bring cya level up or leave it and manually bring my chlorine level up and see if it maintaine a
good reading.

Yes you should be getting chlorine from the unit, but it won't produce enough to overcome algae or if the pool is in the sun with such a low CYA number.

Take some water straight from the return back to the pool and check that for chlorine - make sure it's taken when the IC-20 is producing (80% means 80% on, 20% off - should see some bubbles if it's on).

Personal example: My pool is 16K gallons and I have a Pentair IC-40. When it was first installed there was between 30 and 40ppm CYA because the pool builder and their pool maintenance tech weren't communicating. I had to run the IC-40 at 60% duty cycle 10 hours a day to keep FC up to the right level. After checking the CYA a bunch of time, helping them find out their mistake, and bumping up the CYA to 70, I now run the same unit at 20% duty cycle.

I'd use whatever was cheaper - some shock has CYA.

I'd also test the water right where it enters the pool - the IC-20 could be malfunctioning.

You should be producing about 3 ppm. How much salt do you have in your pool? Did they test for that? I would recommend being around 3500 ppm.
