How far should the pump/filter be from the pool

Postby rustyrmh » Thu 16 Sep, 2010 15:29

Newbie whose pool got started on Monday  (IG 15x30)

My pool guys have recommended the pump/filter be placed just off the concrete decking. My neighbor suggests it be moved 25-30 feet away for noise and appearance reasons.

The pool guy countered by saying that will be harder on the pump and cut down on circulation. Is he correct or just trying to save some piping & digging costs?

Thanks

Your neighbor is correct. You do not want the pump and filter near the pool.

The builder is just trying to save money. Placing the system farther away does not hurt anything as long as the correct pipe size is used. I recommend 2-inch PVC.

You could have the pump and filter 1 mile away if you used 4 inch PVC. (Assumes a flow rate of 60 gpm.)

In the case where tabs are placed in the skimmer basket no doubt a heavy chlorine concentration in the first few feet of tubing would counsel a reasonable distance in order to minimize its corrosive effect on the pump if not other hardware

As long as there is no uphill climb & the pump is at the same level or lower than the pool water level, then a max of 40'

Putting it away from the pool is much normal. And yes as long as it is not elevated and as much as possible same level with the pool then I think it won't hurt the machine.

People generally overlook this part, but it is important to keep the motor away from the contact of foreign matter and water. It would be preferable if you place the motor in a properly ventilated area. It will protect the motor from the damage of overheating.
