Newbie: water circulation starts and stops immediately

Postby jayam » Tue 12 Oct, 2010 09:39

Newbie: I just bought an old home with spa/pool

Past couple of days I noticed the pool water starts to circulate through the pump system and stops immediately. I notice the water starts circulating through the pump (observed via pump strainer window) and the DE filter pressure gauge starts to build up pressure (to around 20) and the jets start to pump in water to the pool/spa and then immediately the pressure comes down and circulation stops. Only the pool pump continue to run.

The pool was on auto program (starts at 9:00 AM and runs for 10Hrs). I have a Jandy DEL filter. I have been cleaning the skimmer and pump strainers every two days. I normally have some leaves floating in the pool.

Any help is appreciated

There's several possibilities but the easiest one is the water level in the pool may be too low.

Have someone stand out by the skimmer when you turn the pump on and look to see if the skimmer(s) suck air when the pump comes on. If so, that causes the pump to lose prime and the water will no longer flow.

Let us know if that's not the problem.

Thankyou very much for your advice. That exactly was the reason. I increased the water level to about half height of the skimmer port. Now I am getting continuous circulation.
