Filter valve leak

Postby Phil.c » Wed 04 Aug, 2021 02:18

I have a leak which drips water into the outlet hose, the one for backwashing etc, it's only a drip, I coil the flat hose and rest it on the filter, but after a few hours the section of the hose fills right up with water and is pushing it's way into the rest of the coiled hose, I'm just wondering if there's an O ring that can fix this inside the valve?

It's the spider gasket in your MPV
Some people just add a valve to the waste outlet
If you change the spider gasket make sure you put the MPV back the same way (take a photo)

I think we tend to unions over here so that they can be replaced
There are threaded union valves just Google "threaded 1 1/5 plastic valve"
It's not a hard job to replace the spider gasket if you can get them

Normally they come attached to the filter, so if you have a filter name and model you can contact them or search online

Lots of things went wrong at the same time, so besides the spider, the backwash outlet adaptor broke, also the oil burner packed in, after many hours of trying to get it running, (twenty years old) I bought another burner only to find it run then stopped, swapping caps and a different pump didn't work, I remembered that I hadn't checked the tank filter, turns out it had collapsed and was covered in "mud" which had worked it's way 70 yards down to the burner, cleaning out the pipeline fixed it!

With an oil burner if the motor runs and cuts out check if you have oil and a spark

The motor wasn't cutting out as such, just jamming due to residue in the pump.

Actually no, that was the easiest bit as all that was needed was to disconnect it and turn the shaft with an electric drill to pump the oil out, the bit that took the longest was running the oil out from the tank to the burner into litre pop bottles, the oil wasn't wasted as I filtered it back into the tank :)

The Simple gasket removal....not so simple in this case as after twenty years, it had bonded to the plastic housing which took carefull removal with a sharp screwdriver, but all done :)
