Finally, I've got my pool crystal clear. (inground, 25000 gal) Now my question is, do I still shock it on schedule or do I wait until I see it looking cloudy? I usually shock (2 1lb bags) on Thurs and clarify on Fri or Sat depending on whether its raining or not. I'm really nervous that I'll do it more harm than good and yet I don't want it to turn green again!! Never owned a pool before and the water was 3 years old when we bought the house. We didn't empty it but boy did it take a lot of chemicals. So, what do you think? Stay on schedule or wait?

stay on schedule. I usually recommend to shock every two weeks and after heavy usage. I don't recommend the regular use of clarifiers but if it works for you...

If your chlorine level is right, 1.5-3.5 and CYA is 20-40, there should be no need to shock. Chlorine is the sanitizer for your pool and should be doing it's job. Test for chloramines using a Taylor K-2006 kit and shock only when the chloramines are above .8 for 3 consecutive days.
