Sand filter problems

Postby davethewave » Wed 23 Sep, 2009 10:32

My sand filter is causing and and small debris to bedeposited back into the pool after backwashing. i rinse afetr backwashing and then commence the pump but all the sand that was originally in the bottom of the pool slowly enters via the jets. Small leaf debris, et., that aws previously vacuumed up also appears.

Would it be broken laterals in the filter or the connector tube in the c entre o the filter has become detached.

The switch at the top of the filter is acting normally - no grinding or stiffness.

Any suggestions?????

Sand filter problems

You got it Dave. Broken or crack lateral, standpipe, air bleeder tube etc. In filter mode the first bit of loose sand will leave the filter and create a small pocket and the media leakage will stop. Backwashing stirs up the media and allowing enough to leak through on filter to create another pocket. As the hole/crack gets bigger more media will leak until it finally will not create a pocket, it will simply blow all the media back to the pool.

Solution is to open it up and inspect all the internals for cracks etc.
