pH too high, since installing pH machine

Postby beanPoolOwner » Thu 08 Sep, 2022 14:08

Hi all,

I have recently had a pH regulating device installed : https://www.iot-pool.com/en/products/ecopool-ph

It takes basic solution from a baril, measures the pH, and injects it into the pool when the pH dips below 7.2.

At least that's what it is programmed to do (I have double checked the settings after the installer.

Unfortunately, I see my pH keeps creeping up. So it seems the machine is injecting the product every now and then. This is a rare event because I have looked often at it, and didn't saw it do it.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Any clue?

Thanks!

Is your water being aerated in any way as this will increase pH?
I would be inclined to turn it off and check if it makes a difference

Hi Dennis,

I am not entirely sure what you mean by that. It is in contact with the air like any other pool.
It is a saltwater pool, maybe it's normal for pH to increase over time?

Aeration causes pH to rise
Infinity edge, waterfall, slide, bubbler’s, and any other form of aeration
Maybe turn it off and see what happens

Ah I see. No I don't have any form of aeration, it's a simple pool.

Yes, I'll do that. Thanks

Depends on what you have it set to do, the above makes no sense. It injects when the pH dips below 7.2 means you have it set to increase the pH but your issue is the pH keeps creeping up?

Hey teapot, thanks for your answer.

I agree it does not make sense. My current theory is that the process to convert salt to chlorine is what adds pH to the pool. I will explore that idea.

Its not a theory its a known fact, the gas producing cycle of the chlorinator cell raises pH when the alkalinity is higher than about 50-60ppm.

The confusion was your statement that your dosing pump adds when the pH dips below 7.2.
If your pH pump is loaded with pH- then it should not inject until pH has reached around 7.8 to 8, to reduce the pH which to be honest you do not need to do. I think you need to explain a little more.
