High PH, Free Chlorine High, Total Alkalinity High

Postby Ozzy » Tue 20 May, 2008 18:43

I have a 27' above ground pool - approximatley 15,000 gal. My pool water is cloudy green.

PH is high (8.4))
Free Chlorine high (10)
Total Alkalinity high (240+)
Stablizer low

I have been running the pump & sand filer 24/7 for the last 2-3 weeks. New sand added this year to filter.

Suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

As I tell most every pool owner your best investment is a good test kit. I use the Taylor K 2006. It is very accurate and reliable. First you NEED to get your pH down. Your chlorine is VERY ineffective with your pH that high. How do you know it is actually 8.4 as most kits dont test above 8? If your pH is 8.4 and your gallons are 15000 then your need to add 98oz of 31.45% muriatic acid to get your pH down to 7.2. Start there because this will also get your TA down somewhat. But i really need a more accurate test to help more (FC, pH, TA, CH, CYA).

Thanks for your response.

I use the AquaChek strips. I will get the test system you suggest. I am not sure the pH was 8.4...that is just what the color code suggested that the pH from the color on the strip.
