pool store suggested additions

I am a new pool owner. I have a 30,000 gal grey gunite pool. I just had my water tested. I thought all was fine from my own tests but the pool store said to add 7 bags of bioguard burn out 35, 4 lb of balance pak 100 to reduce alkalinity and 1 lb of Lo "N Slo to reduce ph.

Here are the results of the pool store test:
total chlorine is 5 and the free is 4.3
ph is 7.5
CYA 110
total Alkalinity 138
hardness 263

Initially when I opened the pool it was cloudy with no chlorine present. I added 15 bags of burn out 35 (triple my usual maint. amount) then a day later the algecide. After a week both chlorine levels were still above 10 ppm so I added Chem out so I could swim for the holiday weekend, but the chlorine is still too high and the pool store is telling me to increase it, it's 90 degrees here in NJ and I want to swim! What do I do? Please help! Thanks!

Looking at your results, despite a higher than ideal CYA level, I would be satisifed this pool is safe to use as is.

It seems odd to me the store wants to add so much chlorine with a chlorine level above 4. Sure the combined chlorine level is still elevated, however I suspect this is more to do with CYA than anything else.

Could I suggest you try a different store?

The high CYA means her min FC should be 8 to be effectively sanitized for human use/swimming.

i was told the same thing, except mine was up to 200ppm at one point. and with the CYA at 110ppm, that isnt too far from 80ppm that a quick drain and refill can bring it down to where you need to, then you should have a much better balance of FC/TC/CC.
