Green pool water - mostlikely not algea

Postby Williet » Wed 06 Jun, 2007 22:48

I have been fighting an emerald green pool for 2 months with minimum success. I tried algecide early on, used a clarifier, took samples to two different pool supply stores, tried algecide again still little success. It is a little lighter is color. I can now see down about 2.5 feet. The latest rinkle from a pool maintenace guy was to add DE to my cartridge filter through the skimmer. This is woking, but is very slow and is going to be costly with my pump running most of thje time.

Any suggestions

I cannot imagine that if you shocked it high enough that you would still have green, unless you had copper in your water. Have your water tested for metals and treat accordingly.

I've heard that algaecide is only a preventive, not a cure for algae already there. I think you need to shock the pool, keeping up shock levels steadily until the green is gone. may need to check chlorine levels a few times a day to be sure you are keeping it high enough.
