installing a beaded liner - need to take top rail off ?

I'm replacing a standard beaded liner on a 24' round above ground pool with 54" high wall. I've never done this before but generally do pretty well with projects like this - I enjoy the research and doing the work myself.

I ordered a uni-bead liner and have watched a few youtube videos on the replacement.

So far, I do not see why I would need to remove the top rail pieces when removing the old or installing the new.
Is that correct ?
