Paint on old Diamond Brite: possible?

Postby MarcAmblard » Tue 21 Sep, 2021 11:15

Hello friends,

I have a small pool (24' x 11') with spa and I have to change the old Diamond Brite. It's only esthetic.

The estimate is over my budget (about $4000). So, I plan to paint it directly on the old Diamond Brite. He holds up very well.

Do you think it's possible? Is a primer necessary? Thank you for your help. Marc.

Pool paint is not good and something youll be doing regularly. Add the cost of that into any thoughts you have.
I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.

I resurface pools for a living. Paint is going to start flaking off in two years or so. I suggest you save for a few years and get a replaster or ecoFINISH. Any money you spend on paint will be a waste, as that paint is going to have to be taken off in order to resurface your pool with something more permanent. And honestly? That's a screaming price you were quoted. A replaster would cost double that where I live. Good luck!
