Painting and expansion plugs on floor

Postby Slimbob » Wed 24 Jun, 2009 13:55

Hello,
I'm new to this forum and have a painting procedure question.

I am Painting my pool and have 2 expansion plugs on floor to release water pressure under the pool while the pool is empty. I have been told that leaving these plugs in while the pool is empty could result in the pool being pushed out of the ground, at least raised.

My question is this: How do I dry the bottom of the pool for painting if I leave these plugs out and and water continuously pours out of them? I need the pool to be dry before painting with epoxy paint.

Thank you,
Slimbob

most plugs are 1 1/2 inch. Go to home depot and buy a 1 1/2 inch threaded pvc pipe fitting and a piece of
1 1/2 inch pipe ( 1 to 2 feet long ). Glue the pipe to the fitting. Wrap the fitting threads with teflon tape and screw the assembled pieces into the hole in the floor of the pool. Home depot sells a utility pump that has garden hose attachments for the suction and discharge sides. Stick the suction side down the pipe and let the pump run continuously while you paint and the paint dries. Once the paint is dry, remove the pump and pipe and reinstall the plug.

Not a bad idea. Need to find a cheaper pump though.

Thanks,

I'm not sure, but you may want to look into a waterbed pump.
