Hi guys,
I have an intex 10ft steel framed above ground pool

I have a sand filter using 1.5" pipework, has anyone tried putting proper return jets and a skimmer onto this type of pool, and was it successful?

In all my experience, I've never seen it done. But I'm quite sure, with some ingenuity, a talent for building frame work and mounts, it could be done using their skimmer product line that hangs over the edge as shown;

But if you ask me in my professional opinion, rather than fashion questionable gadgetry and odd and ends, a simple pool cover after swimming pool usage will solve the debris problem:
