iHello, I'm going to replace my filter. The current plumbing has a wacky series of bends from the filter to the pump. I'm new to this, is it necessary that the pipes have a high loop or bump between the pump and filter, or can i just attach the pump to filter with a single 90 degree fitting? Some pics attached, thanks!

No you dont need some wacky route but try to use a slow 90 bend or 2x 45 degree bends to give a better flow.
