sand back in pool

when vacuming the pool i get sand coming back in the pool... any advise at was is wrong?

If the multiport valve is set to filter then you most likely have some damage to the laterals in your sand filter.

Open & inspect filter inside & look for broken laterals.

25 yesrs experience:

Are you sure if it's filter sand or sand from in the ground ie possible broken return pipe?
Are you losing water? If so pressure test & repair.

If it's filter sand (a more coarse sand than ground dirt or sand)
If you have a sand filter it's a broken lateral (not fun to change depending on the model of filter you have) You could replace lateral or vacuum to waste.

If you have a DE or Cartridge filter there could be a tear in cartridge or a tear in the cloth material the covers the vertical grid in the DE filter. (open and visually examine and replace if needed).
