We have a 1000 gallon above ground pool. Getting ready to drain the pool for winter.
We used the normal pool pump to drain about half the water. Now the water level is below the pump water inlet and outlet.
The bottom to the rim of pool is around 5 feet.
Which pump should we get to remove the rest of water?
We have couple long 50 ft garden hoses, but unable to suck the water over the pool rim.
Thank you.

Re: which pump to drain above ground pool?
Have you tried a siphon, costs nothing as you already have the hose just need to get the pipe run lower than the pool base? I had to do this when a customers pump failed we left it over night and it did the job, actually we set up two siphons.
I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.

If you are going to siphon the water out, connect the hose to the water main to charge the hose with water, then disconect from main
Don't forget to weigh the end of the hose down so that it doesn't float

We have two 50 ft long garden hoses.
First reasonably new hose, tie to metal rod at water bottom. Garden hose flip over the 5 ft pool frame. Screw female hose end to faucet. Turn on water and see air bubbles till none. Unscrew the hose & drop to gutter. First quite a good water flow for few minutes. The slow drip of water.
The second old hose is even worse, flow last less than a minute. Then drips.
Had make sure no kink in hose.

Must have an air leak somewhere.

If you have to go the pump route then the submersible ones are pretty quick but get one with a flat plate on the bottom rather than open slots as those suck the liner to the slots and stop working.

Is where you are draining lower than the bottom of the pool?
You might try lifting the hose about 6" off the bottom or try using a shorter hose
Are there any leaks in the hoses?

Re: which pump to drain above ground pool?
checked everywhere at the hoses and did not find any leak.
Unable to dig a deeper / lower spot lower than the bottom of the pool.
Probably going to try the pump. Thank you everyone and helpful.

You could still raise it off the bottom so it will do most of the pool
