When connecting the automatic pool cleaner are you ment to connect it to the skimmer plate with the filter basket in place or remove the filter basket and connect in directly to the skimmer pipe?

Either way should work. If you use the skimmer plate you'll have to remove the cleaner to empty the basket. If not you'll have to clean out the pump basket when needed.

Thanks superdoopie, might use the skimmer plate then cos its a lot easier to clean that the pump basket. Do you find the lid on the pump basket hard to open?

No problem.

Over time the lids can get harder to open. You should lubricate the o-ring in the lid (and all other o-rings you can get to) once or twice a season to help keep the lid manageable and to lengthen the life of the o-rings. Use only silicone or teflon based lubricants. Don't use petroleum jelly.

Some people will keep a rubber mallet around to help loosen the pump lid. This depends on which pump you have. Some other pumps have plastic tabs that stick up off the top (like a king's crown) and some have a handle so you could wedge something in there to gain leverage. Be careful not to break anything.

Thanks again. Will give the silicone a try.

Make sure it is a silicone lubricant, not silicone caulk.
