Solar Covers

Evil or Very Mad

My 20 x 40 fiberglass pool is in it's 2nd. year. We really love it, but the damn solar cover is giving us fits. Every time we roll it back I have to net at least 100 blue triangles which have seperated from the cover. Are there covers without this problem or am I going to have to invest $165 every two years?

TIA
Ralph

I did hear that they only last about 2 -3 years due to the sun & cholrine...sorry.
I'm only in my second year, and it still looks good except for some tears at the seams...

solar covers

I assume you shock your pool at night, if so dont put the cover on. Chlorine is corrosive and will eat the cover. Also cover your solar cover with a white plastic sheet when it is rolled up so the sun doesnt beat on it.

Ralph, it all depends on the sorroundings also of your pool. Yes Chlorine will do some damage to it, but like your pool, the investment in your solar cover needs to be considered. Sunbathers is a great make. If you wish to have more details email me direct.

Good luck

do you keep your cover on during the day? if so, does it heat the pool faster?

When not in use, we do keep the cover on. Not sure that it speeds up heating, but does prevent heat loss during the night. Problem is that my wife likes the pool at 90 degrees or more. Other than that I wouldn't bother to pull it on and off. This time of year our outside temperature averages about 110.

90 degrees!!!
I don't think my pool ever gets that hot!
That would be like bath water!
I leave mine on unless people are swimming in it.
Mine is only around 78 right now up here in Michigan...

mine gets to 92 degrees. In the beggining of summer its warm but you get used to it and it doesn't feel that high at all.
