Solar cover on too much?

Postby COREYANDJOHN » Tue 16 Aug, 2005 13:04

My husband insists if we leave the solar cover on our above ground pool too much, (days at a time) it will make the water cloudy. Is there any truth to this? He said it's something about the pool water needing air on it. I never had a pool before. He had one as a kid, and said he was always told not to leave a pool covered too much. (I think it was something his parents told him.) I like to keep the solar cover on whenever we're not swimming. The pool is near a tree, and the cover helps keep leaves, debris, and bugs out. Are there any problems with leaving a pool covered too much?

If the chemistry levels are okay, there is no problem.

Pool water can turn cloudy if the chlorine level drops or the pH goes off whack. As long as the filter runs regularly and you add the chemicals the pool water needs, you won't have a problem.

The effect of air on the surface of pool water is:
- introduce oxygen into the water,
- and in so doing to raise the pH level.
