pool pressure points

For an ag pool is there really much downward pressure on the wall? I would have thought that the most pressure is in trying to hold the water within the wall as most ag pool failures seem to be when a join or a wall blows out. The only down pressure would come from the liner stretched over the wall or the weighht of the water spread over the base, would it not? This may already be discussed here somewhere but I couldnt be bothered looking and what's the go when you type a question and it cant be posted because you are told that you cant post links only there's no links in your question so you retype it without commas or full stops and it still gives you the same message.
