Exsisting Pool Repair.. What are my best options??

I am in the process of purchasing a house that currently has a inground pool. I have had a number of pools growing up and all of them had liners (I live in Mass.) I believe the pool is Gunite, but may be some other type of concrete. I am having a pool specialist come out to look at the pool to let me know which type it is exactly.

My question is, if the pool is structurally damaged ie cracks and so forth, what are my options in terms of repair and what is the typical cost(It is a standard 8 ft deep pool and is roughly 16 by 25-30). I have read a number of places of fiberglass and even some places talking liners, but I figured I would check to see what others have done and what is economical.

Also, There are very little if any cracks in the pool, is there anyway to use a plaster material and resurface in pool and then re-paint?

If you have a gunite pool then chances are the gunite is surfaced with plaster. If the cracks are very small then chances are the cracks are in the plaster, not the gunite. Your pool professional will let you know but if you are told it is structural damage then I would get a second opinion. Plaster cracks are easy and inexpensive to fix. Usually the most expensive step is refilling the pool.

I'm having mine done over the next couple of weeks. Its been chipped out and now im doing plumbing and concrete deck then we put in ultra poz plaster/quartz finish. I have a 15x24 pool 3/5/3 deep. Cost for chip out and new finish is about $3000.00. Shop around and check Register of contractors site on there license. Lot of them had open or complaints. Some said they had been in business for 20 years but there issue date was 2006. Tells me they had a complaint then started up under a new license. They told me if the sell was cracked you would see hugh cracks in the plaster. They said very few pools do they ever see this the shell is so strong with rebar they have seen hugh voids under the pool where pipes leaked and the shell was still holding everything up.
