Pool has bubbles from jets and pump drains when turned off

Postby Tripster » Sat 12 Oct, 2019 16:03

:?: just replaced burned up pump. All is working but I get air bubbles from jets and pump drains when turned off. Will prime but takes a few minutes. Old pump never put out bubbles and primed immediately. Suspect air leak but there are no visible water leaks anywhere. Any ideas will help. Thanks

Suction side air leaks don't necessary show a water leak
Check your pump inlet connection, pre filter lid "O" ring and lubricate with silicone grease, also the drain plugs
Your old pump may have had a check valve incorporated in it and the new one doesn't
Is your new pump the same size as the old

Yes, the pumps are the same size. The pump came with screw on connectors that I don’t trust. I think I’ll use pvc with pvc cement. If that doesn’t help, I’ll contact the pump manufacturer and ask about a check valve. Good idea. Thanks for the info.

You say the pump came with screw on connectors, do you mean unions with an "O" rink or washer or just a thread
Unions should be OK, is the seal intact or missing, if threaded did you seal the thread

Union with an “O” ring. I used pipe thread tape on threads.
I just read “orientation check list” from original pool installation company, Sophisticated Systems, Inc.?, which states, “ VENTURI FLOW ADJUSTMENT and importance of air bubbles onto the pool (just below noise threshold) to assure proper operation of the safety vent tube if required.” What significance does this have if any? Continued thanks.

You may possibly have a Venturi which introduces air into the pool like a spa for some bizarre reason
I have no idea why this would be required and would discourage it because aeration raises pH

Is it possible to send photo? Not being the original owner, I really don’t fully understand this setup. Perhaps you could help if you have the time.

Maybe you could take some more images closer so we can get a better perspective as it isn't quiet clear
What is the thing to the right and is the thing on the left a puck chlorinator

Well, I’ve been using my iPhone and I can’t forward more pics because it says images are to large. Guess I’m less intelligent than I thought but I can’t reduce them on my phone to send.
Thought I’d try my laptop but the website says my email and my username are can’t be found. So I tried to register but it says email and username are already taken. So, thanks for all your help.

With an iPhone you can reduce your images before sending
I don't know why your laptop is a problem. Just get the website up and put the same credentials as your iPhone
You are already registered that's why you couldn't use the same crededtials and it said they were already taken (by you)
